Due to the rapid growth in all fields, human being is experiencing the stress related problems. Though the advances in technology has provided lot of comfort living but at the same time it has also increased the stress levels in individuals consequently affecting the personal and professional life. This problem can be addressed at college level by proper counseling to eliminate ill effects caused by stresses.  Present scenario suggests that Students need to be counseled properly so as to make them excel in studies as well as becoming a better human being. In professional colleges the Faculty members themselves take the responsibility of mentoring the students and counseling is a very important part of mentoring process. But unfortunately Engineering College faculty members do not have in depth knowledge about counseling. To overcome this deficiency ATME college of Engineering, Mysuru is organizing a Six-day workshop on the ‘Art of Counseling’ in the college premises between 2nd and 9th of July 2019.

Experts in the field of Psychology and counseling are invited to deliver sessions during the workshop.

Renowned personality Dr. C R Chandrashekar, Former Professor and Deputy Medical Superintendent, Department of Psychiatry, NIMHANS was the chief guest of the inaugural function and the Resource person for the day. Dr. C R Chandrashekar will be speaking on Growth and Development of Adolescents, Mental Disorders of Adolescents including Academic problems.

In the inaugural address Dr. C R Chandrashekar while addressing the teaching fraternity, emphasized that balancing both physical and mental health is very essential to lead happy and peaceful life and also to discharging their duties effectively.


Other Speakers of the workshop includes Mr. A S Ramachandra delivering lecture on Emotional problems in Youngsters. Mrs. Lalitha Rao speaking on Addictions Prevention and treatments, Mr. Anand speaking about Principles and Practices of Counseling., Mr. Y V Gundu Rao on Life skills education and again on the last day Dr. C R Chandrashekar’s session on Relationship- sexual issues and Positive Health.


Dr. Basavaraj, Principal, ATMECE in his address spoke about the present practices followed and the challenges also stressed upon the necessity of professional knowledge in the counselling process. He has advised the participants to make use of the workshop so as to benefit the students as well as themselves.


Mr. Nagendra and Mrs. Pushpa Nagendra from Hoysala Counselling centre, Mysuru present during the occasion. Dr. Ratnakar, Prof. & Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering welcomed the gathering and Prof. Devaraj M R Compered the program and delivered Vote of thanks.
