Technical talk on ‘Embedded System design & IoT’

Department of Electrical and Electronics conducted a technical talk on “Embedded System design & IoT” on 21/11/2022. Resource person Mr. Subash A. Sr. Automation Engineer, Innovaskill Technologies Private Technologies, Bangalore, addressed final year students regarding importance of IoT Embedded  System in any industries for today’s world. Mr. Subash A. having rich experience in industrial automation  delivered lecture on History of IoT, embedded system in IoT, Types of IoT embedded systems, difference  between IoT and embedded systems, The significance of embedded systems in IoT, Examples of non-IoT  embedded system devices, The role of embedded system in IoT, IoT computing devices, popular types of  IoT embedded system devices such as POS terminals, Vending machines, Ticket scanners, Hardware for  an IoT embedded system, Software for an IoT embedded system, Advantages of using Android for an  embedded system for IoT, Installation , configure, The Students were able to know Basic & advance  knowledge of Embedded system design using IOT, He talked about the rising needs of the IoT Embedded  System industries and the skills required for IoT Embedded System career, Around 50 students of VII  Semester from our department attended this technical talk along with faculty members.

Technical talk on ‘Electrical Switchgear & Applications’

Department of Electrical and Electronics conducted a technical talk on “Electrical Switchgear & Applications” on 04/01/2023. Resource person Mr. Shivanand. Managing Director, dbson Universal Power Controls, Tumkur, addressed final year students regarding importance of Contactors & control gears, Protective Relays, Breakers, Protective Instruments, components of Switchgears & their Applications, Cables Accessories, Applications Automation & Installations, Ingress Protection, Selection of Wires, cables, Variable Frequency Drive, DOL Starter, Forward Reverse Starter, Slipring Starter, Fully automatic star-delta starter, DG Interlocking, corrections of power factor, Reactive Maintenance, Preventive Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, Thermo Graphic Analysis. Around 50 students of VII Semester from department attended this technical talk along with faculty members.

Technical Talk on “Awareness Session on Cybersecurity”

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, ATME College of Engineering, Mysuru organized a Technical Talk on Awareness Session on Cybersecurity for Third Semester students of the institution on 19.01.2023 on campus premises.  Mr. Derick Jose, Co-Founder & Chief Product Officer, Flutura Decision Sciences & Analytics, Houston Texas Area was the resource person. Mr.Saravanan Sundaramurthy, CEO and Founder, Xorbit Shifters, Bengaluru was the guest of honour. Program Coordinator, Dr. Parthasarathy L, Professor and HoD, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering spoke on the need for cybersecurity. He said the institution has been funded by AICTE-MODROB To Set Up Cybersecurity In The Power Systems Lab. He further gave insight on the internship opportunity for students which is jointly set up in consultation with Xorbit Shifters, Bengaluru, and IISC, Bengaluru.

Resource Person, Mr. Derick Jose, started the session by giving insight on Stuxnet, which targets supervisory control and data acquisition systems and is believed to be responsible for causing substantial damage to Iran’s nuclear program. He spoke about the Saudi Aramcyber-attack where the malware was used to target the Saudi government by causing destruction to the state-owned national oil company Saudi Aramco. He gave examples of how Chinese hackers target the Indian power grid. Further, the union government had announced spending 515 crores on cybersecurity. He explained about Spot which is an agile mobile robot that navigates the terrain with unprecedented mobility, allowing it to automate routine inspection tasks and data capture safely, accurately, and frequently. Further, he explained about BlackEnergy which is a malware toolkit that has been used by both criminal and APT actors.

He gave insights about InfraGard, to prevent hostile acts against the U.S. Computer Emergency Response Team(CERT), which is the national nodal agency for responding to computer security incidents as and when they occur. He spoke in detail about the Cybersecurity strategies i.e Grid Attack detection, Grid attack Prevention, Grid Incident response, Grid Threat modeling, He concluded the session by speaking about the 7 S of Physical forensic investigation, AI for Grid cybersecurity, Thermal AI pipelines, Drone AI, Grid vectors, snort attack detection, and potential opportunities for students. Post session questionnaire was held where faculty and students interacted with the resource person.

Social Outreach Activities

III Semester Students of Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering visited to Chennakeshava Temple, Somanathapura, Karnataka on 28-12-2022, The visit was intended to Provide a formal platform for students to communicate and connect with their surroundings, enable to create of a responsible connection with society. Also in connection with Social Connect and Responsibility, field visits were arranged for 3rd Sem Students on wet waste management and Water Conservation which enable the student to do a deep drive into societal challenges, sustainability and enable to build solutions to alleviate these complex social problems through immersion, design & technology.

Big Tech Show 5K Walkathon ‘Beyond Bengaluru’

V Semester Students of Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering participated in Walkathon organised by the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) on 20-10-2022 at Mysuru Palace, The Big Tech Show Walkathon ‘Beyond Bengaluru’ was aimed at enhancing growth in the IT/ITeS, Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO), Electronic System Design Manufacturing (ESDM) and telecom sector industries located in emerging technology clusters in Tier II & III cities across the State.  The team comprised of Faeza Taskeen, Shashikala K S, Lavanya G K, Pavan Kumar S, Ponnanna C P, Nikhil H N from 5th Sem of Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering.

Bangalore Tech Summit 2022 Exhibition visit

V Semester Students of Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering visited to Bangalore Technology Summit 2022 Exhibition held on 17-November-2022 at Bangalore Palace. The 25th edition of Bengaluru Technology Summit, the three-day annual tech exposition hosted by the Karnataka government, the event organized by the department of IT/BT in association with Software Technology Parks of India (STPI). The team comprised of Omkar BN, Ashith S Gowda, Arun V, Raehan Ahmed, MD Rayyan Shariff from 5th Sem of Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering.

Workshop on “Industrial Automation”

The Department of Electrical & Electronics, ATME  College of Engineering, Mysuru had organised a “Three  Days Workshop on Industrial Automation” from 27th to

29th December 2021 in campus for Pre-Final Year students.”  Dr. Parthasarathy L, HoD, Department of EEE,  addressed the students and said it is important to upgrade skillset to explore the challenges and opportunities in  Industries. Further, he emphasized the need of skill  enhancement certification which shall be verified by  accreditation bodies for outcome-based education.   Resource Person, Mr Shashi Kiran, Director,  Vidyuth Automation, Mysuru started the session and

explained AutoCAD, PLC, SCADA & HMI.

Workshop on “Embedded System”

The Department of Electrical & Electronics, ATME  College of Engineering, Mysuru had organised a “Two  Days Workshop on Embedded System and Industrial  Automation” from 03rd to 04th  December 2021 in campus  for Final Year students.  The event was organised with an  objective to make the students familiar with Embedded  systems and Industrial Automation its applications.  7th semester undergone the hands-on training on  “Embedded systems and Industrial Automation” for 2-days  conducted by Innovaskill Technologies Private Limited .

Industry Visit to Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), Mysuru

The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering had organised Industrial visit to BEML  (Bharat Earth Movers Limited) for EEE students on 14th December 2021 in order to provide a practical  exposure of earthmoving equipment includes bulldozers, dump trucks, hydraulic excavators, wheel loaders.

Swachh Bharath Abhiyana

• Purpose: The Ministry of Union Human Resource Development sent a call for participation from all colleges in “SWACHHTA ABHIYANA” for spreading the message of cleanliness not only among the students but also in the surrounding areas.
• Report: In this regard, the NSS volunteers are cleaned Dinka village and cleaned around dinkadamma temple
• Review: All the students participated very enthusiastically in this programme along with many municipal corporation personnel

Tree Platation Program

• Purpose: NSS Unit of ATME College has organized Plantation program on 12-03-2021 in the in the Dinka village, It has to be a combined mission of all mankind to plant more trees in order to save our ailing planet. Thus, we have our global Tree Plantation Day which is celebrated on 21st March all over the world
• Review: The plantation of 73rd saplings by the elected members of the Village Panchayat and the student volunteers inside the premises of the school was the high light of this day to represent the 73 rd Independence Day of our nation
• Review: All the students participated very enthusiastically in this programme along with the members of the Village Panchayat and NSS volunteers taken up the work and planted 73 plants

State Level Technical Fest “AVAGAMAH”

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, ATME College of Engineering, Mysuru had organized State Level Technical Fest “AVAGAMAH” in its campus premises on 29^th June 2022.The event was organized with an objective, to provide platform for exhibiting student’s technical ability and create awareness about the latest research, challenges of the society & inventions in the stream of Electrical & Electronics Engineering.

Dr. M H Sidram, HoD, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, JSS Science and Technology University, Mysuru, Mr.Ramu, HoD, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, D Banumaiah’s Polytechnic, Mysuru and Mr. Manu M, HoD, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, J S S Polytechnics, Nanjangud were the Chief guest. Technical Project Exhibition and Digital Poster Presentation events were conducted as part of the Technical Fest. Capstone projects from various parts of the state were exhibited during the event.

The project titled Fishermen’s Self Driving Rescue Device presented by Yaseen ulla Khan, Fawaz Ahamed N S, Bharath S, Manasa H P, Dept. of EEE, ATMECE, Mysuru bagged 1^st Place. Food Grain Storage Management System using IoT presented by Yashas M C, Anitha, Vinayak R Sheeri, Yashas M C, Dept. of EEE,VVIET, Mysuru bagged 2^nd Place and New Battery Management System presented by Praveen Gowda S B, Prajwal S, Charan M V, Bhanuprakash, Dept. of EEE, ATMECE, Mysuru bagged 3^rd place in the Digital Poster Presentation on Recent

AICTE Social Outreach Activity 

Swachh Bharath Abhiyana

On 30.06.22 The cleaning of the surroundings of the primary school and the temple as well as the roads of the village was taken up by the student volunteers.  This activity is expected to promote the importance self-cleaning on health-hygiene among the villagers. The Sevashraya Foundation, an NGO from T.Narasipur donated T-Shirts to all the volunteers of  the camp.

Blood Donation Camp

On 29.04.2022 the Lions Club of Bannur Green Land in association with Jeeva Dhara, a unit of Social Services Trust, Mysuru, arranged a Blood Donation Camp in which most of the student volunteers as well as some interested locals donated blood. Also, a Health Check-up Camp for diabetes and Blood Pressure was arranged in which about 100 members were examined by the invited doctors.  Further, Sevashraya Foundation, an  NGO  from  T.Narasipur,  donated  the medicines prescribed by doctors for some defaulters of the camp.

• Webinar Series under IEEE

The ATME IEEE Student Branch had organised “Webinar series on 21st and 23rd October 2020.” in online platform –  MS Teams. The event was organized with objectives to explore recent trends and advantage of using electric vehicle in India Context and to promote ecological sustainable growth while addressing India’s energy Security Challenges. Students from all the branches participated in the event.Mr Ravikiran Annaswamy , CEO of Innohabit Technologies gave insights on the “ Role of Electric Vehicle in 21st century and relevance to India” on 21st October, 6PM.

• National Cancer Awareness Day

The objective of the webinar was to generate awareness about early detection and avoid Cancer causing lifestyles. National Cancer Awareness Day is observed on 7th November on the birth anniversary of eminent scientist Madame Curie. Marie Curie is remembered for the discovery of radium and polonium and gets huge contribution to the fight against cancer. Her work led to the development of nuclear energy and radiotherapy for the treatment of cancer.

1. “Virtual Technical Fest: Avagamah” Hackathon and Innovative Idea Submission Challenge

The Department of Electrical & Electronics, ATMECE, Mysuru had organised a “State Level Virtual Technical Fest-AVAGAMAH” on 4th and 7th December, 2020 through online platform.

To encourage students to apply technical and logical thinking skills through Experiential and participatory Learning, a Virtual Hackathon event was conducted on 4th December, 2020 as part of the fest.

Mr. Nouman Ahmed of VVCE, Mysuru bagged 1st Place, Mr. Varun A of ATMECE, Mysuru bagged 2nd Place, Mr. Joshua H Rayapuri of ATMECE and Mr. Sumanth Rao C S of JSS Academy of Technical Education, Bengaluru received consolation Prize in the event Hackathon.

To enhance the creative, societal, logical and technical thinking ability in students, Make in Bharat: Innovative Idea Submission Challenge (IIC) was organised on 7th December, 2020. Proposals were submitted by the teams which was initially screened and the best 8 Teams were invited for presentation.

The proposal titled “Adjustable Spoon for Parkinson’s Disorder” presented by Mr. Joshua H Rayapuri and Ms. Dhanyatha M, Dept. of EEE, ATMECE bagged 1st Place and the proposal titled “Assistive Tool Kit for Alzheimer’s Patient” presented by Mr. Yaseen Ulla Khan and Mr. Mohammed Suhail, Dept. of EEE, ATMECE bagged 2nd Place. Both teams were mentored by Mr.Shreeshayana R, Assistant Professor.

“Voting Management”, presented by Ms. Pavithra K, Dept. of CSE, ATMECE mentored by Mr. Kiran B, Assistant Professor, “Automatic Door Knob Sanitization” presented by Ms. Arpitha R and Ms. Priyanka P D, Dept. of EEE, ATMECE mentored by Mr. Vinod Kumar P, Assistant Professor and “IoT based Hydroponics Cultivation” presented by Mr. Hemanth B S and Mr. Manjunath K B, Dept. of EEE, mentored by Mr. Shreeshayana R, Assistant Professor were awarded consolation prize.

• Workshop on App development

The objective of the workshop is to give students hands-on experience in developing Android applications. The online workshop is intended for students who are interested in computational thinking with App Inventor, and for anyone who would like to learn basic programming skills. It provides many interesting hands-on examples, including simple games and practical tools, to make programming fun and easy even for beginners without any prior programming experience.

• Workshop on Tool usage -LabView

The department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, ATME College of Engineering, Mysuru had organized a Three day Workshop  on “LabView” for the 2nd year of Electrical and Electronics Engineering on 21st December 2020 to 23rd December 2020 through Online Platform. The event was organized to make the students to learn the modern tool usage and to simulate the Electrical & Electronics Circuits by using the modern tool LabView.

• Online Quiz Competition on “World Science Day for Peace and Development”

The Department of Electrical & Electronics, ATME College of Engineering, Mysuru had organised “E-Quiz Competition on World Science Day for Peace and Development” on 31st Dec 2020 through online platform.

The event was organised with objectives to bring Awareness about the role of science in societal developments. The target participants were Engineering students of all the discipline. More than 150 students across various colleges have took part in the event. All the participants are provided with participation e-certificates and the Highest scorers are provided with Merit certificate.

• Technical Talk – on IoT in today’s World

The department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, ATME College of Engineering, Mysuru had organized a Webinar on “IoT in today’s World” for the 2nd and 3rd year of Electrical and Electronics Engineering on 30th May 2021 through Online Platform. The event was organized to give an exposure to the students about the new technologies that are developing and to encourage the students to think and work in that direction by taking up the mini projects and major projects based on IoT’s.

• Entrepreneur Talk

The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering in association with Training and Placement Department organised a Webinar on “Entrepreneurship Skills in Youngsters” in ATMECE, for Pre-Final Year and Final Year Students of Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering on 5th June 2021,  with the objective of the webinar to develop and strengthen the entrepreneurial quality in students.

• Technical Talk: “Introduction to Machine Learning and Deep Learning”

The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, ATME College of Engineering had organized one-day webinar on “Introduction to Machine Learning and Deep Learning” for the 3rd year Electrical and Electronics Engineering students on 19th June 2021 through MS Teams Online Platform. The event was organized to provide an exposure and to motivate the students towards the cutting-edge technologies in today’s world with deep roots in other fields such as Electrical & Electronics Engineering, etc.

1. State Level Quiz Competition

The Department of Electrical & Electronics, ATME College of Engineering, Mysuru had organised “State Level Technical Quiz Competition on Electrical & Electronics Engineering” on  30th June 2021 through online platform. The target participants were students from Electrical & Electronics Engineering.

The event was organised with objectives to enhance the technical skills of students in the field of Electrical & Electronics Engineering and to improve the analytical, logical and problem-solving skills in students. The quiz competition covered questions from Engineering courses on Basic Electrical Engineering, Transformers and Generators, Electric Motors, Digital System Design, Electrical and Electronics Measurements. About 180 students from different regions of Karnataka registered and participated in the event

• Workshop on C programming & puzzles

The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering had organized a Webinar on “C Programming & Puzzles” in ATMECE, for Final Year Students of Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering on 26th June 2021, with the objective of the webinar to enhance the programming skills in students.

• National Level Project Competition 

The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering had organized a National Level Project Competition on 20th July 2021 with the objectives to introduce the students to real-world engineering situations and encourage to develop solutions addressing environment, economic sustainability and societal cause and to create opportunity to the students to exhibit their technical, communicational skills, Research orientation and Project management.

TECHNICAL TALK ON “SMART GRID INITIATIVES IN INDIA”

Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, ATMECE, Mysuru had organised a Technical Talk on “Smart Grid Initiatives in India” on 4th September 2019. Er. HumeeraHaneef, Assistant Executive Engineer, CESC, Mysuru and Er. Manju K, Assistant Engineer, CESC, Mysuruwas the Resource person.

Guest of honour, Dr.LBasavaraj, Principal, ATME College of Engineering, Mysuru said that the intention of these kinds of program is to achieve practical exposure and to make the student industry ready. He appeal the students to make use of the opportunity give to them. Dr.Parthasarathy L, Head, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering presided and said it is our job to upgrade our knowledge. Technology is changing and when it comes to smart grid it changes the way we look into the power system and he advised the participants to utilise the knowledge gained effectively.

Er. HumeraHaneef, Assistant Executive Engineer, CESC, Mysuru explains the Journey of Smart Grid in CESC Mysore and its implementation in Mysuru city. She emphasize on customers participation in smart grid and its advantage over convention method.

Er. Manju K, AssistantEngineer, CESC, Mysuru explains about fault clearing techniques and how to reduce peak demand without load shedding in smart grid.

Industrial Visit To Hootagalli Substation, Mysuru

The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering had organised Industrial visit to 220kV/66 kV /11kV SRS Hootagalli substation, Mysuru for IV semester students on 29^th February 2020 in order to provide a practical exposure of substation.

A substation is a part of an electrical generation, transmission, and distribution system. Sub-station serve as sources of energy supply for the local areas of distribution in which these are located. Their main functions are to receive energy transmitted at high voltage from the generating station reduce the voltage to a value appropriate for local distribution and provide facility for switching.

Engineers at the substation explained to students the layout of substation, one line diagram, scada and various programming done in the control room and all the essential component of the 220kV/66 kV /11kV substation such as incoming feeders, Bus bars, Lightening Arresters, line isolators, wave trap, circuit breakers, Power transformers, Current Transformers, Potential Transformers, Protective relays, capacitor banks, capacitor voltage transformer, different kinds of insulators etc.

STATE LEVEL TECHNICAL PROJECT EXHIBITION ORGANISED AT ATME

The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, ATME College of Engineering, Mysuru, had organized a “State Level Technical Project Exhibition” under department association Quantum recently

Total of 43 Projects in the final year category and 22 projects under Hobby Project category participated in the event.

Two project batches, Automated Waste segregator with Composter by Harshitha BM, Abhijith M, Rohith PN and Sneha Lincy Sequera of ATMECE, Mysuru and Automated flood gates using PLC by Tippeswamy J, Kumar M K, Thushar M S and Devaraj of VVIET, Mysuru won the 1^st place.

Two project batches, Rapid prototyping using additive manufacturing by Manoj Gowda K, Sajid Ahmed ES, Divya KR, Shambhavi KN of VVCE, Mysuru and Waste Management by Navvena G S, Hemanth N C, Abhilash H M of GMIT, Mandya won the 2^nd place.

Two project batches, PLC controlled water bottle filling system by Thunga MN, Dashwitha S, Devika Rani K and Vishal P of ATMECE, Mysuru and Monitoring of garbage and collection system using IOT by vishwas A, Sachin M, Shilpa A N and Shivakumara C R of VVCE, Mysuru won the 3rd place.
